...I assume the answer you're looking for isn't money, or dashing good looks.

[ Valmont swallows very hard. Acknowledging that he was wrong, in the abstract, is one thing. Actually apologizing to someone...? To their face?
He doesn't want to. He really doesn't want to. But Manuela is looking at him in a way that makes him feel, somehow, like he's back in primary school and has just disappointed one of his favorite teachers.
What the hell. He's already swallowed a good bit of his pride today. He can choke down a little more. ]
Oh... very well. Wait here.
[ Setting down his own tea, he gets to his feet and makes his way over to the barista. Their conversation is quiet, but if Manuela listens, she can probably hear an I apologize crammed somewhere in there. They don't sound like words he's very used to saying. Eventually, he returns to the table, sits down heavily and takes a long swig of tea. ]

Her eyes watch the entire time he goes over and she listens while she sips her tea. Like a teacher making sure that her student is actually doing what he's told and not just flapping his lips. It's not the best apology from what she can manage to hear but it is there.
When he returns she smiles around the lip of her cup as she takes another sip before setting it down.]
That's better. That's much more attractive on you.

Kind of you to say so.
[ The reply has neither the suaveness of their initial meeting nor the sharpness of a few minutes prior. He just sounds kind of... drained, honestly. Did being nice really take that much out of him? ]
Er, Miss Manuela, I do hate to cut short our time together, but perhaps we might continue this conversation another time? You've given me... rather a lot to think about already.
[ Like his feelings about continuing to pursue this acquaintance, and, if he does, whether he could handle having to do another apology. ]

[Because he still needs sooooo much training. But this has already been a very good start and she smiles as she nods at him, not moving to get up.
After all, she can finish her tea first. Thank you.]
